A Word From Our Clients
My wife and I fished with Andrew Catt on the Owyhee River on May 15th. Andrew was very helpful before our trip sending us map information and drive to information, as well as letting us know what we needed to bring with us. We had a beautiful day, with near perfect weather, the river, although slightly off color was a beautiful high desert setting. We had deer walk up to us while we were in the water, watched Osprey's fishing with us, and even got a great chorus of Chukker Partridge singing to us from the rocky canyon walls! Andrew was a terrific guide, continuing to work very hard, all day long to try and "break the code", using numerous different techniques and fly patterns to get the fish to eat. My wife and I are avid fly fishers, and have been I have been fly fishing for 60 years, so we understand that some days the fish just don't want to co-operate! Susie, my wife, was able to land two beautiful Brown's, on nymphs under an indicator, and I landed one on a dry fly, and blew the opportunity to land a very nice fish, that I'm sure was over 20"! Andrew set me up in the perfect spot, even helping my 70 year old legs wade in some difficult water. I threw a number of different patterns to this fish, getting numerous refusals, until we put on a suspended midge pattern, and after trying for over 30 minutes, the fish finally ate my offering! Unfortunately, I was so excited to see it finally happen, I set too soon, and just gave the fish a sore lip! Beside working his tail off to get us into fish, we stopped mid day and had the best shore lunch I have ever been provided by a guide! The day was great, the company was great, the scenery was great, the food was awesome, the fishing was very interesting, and the catching was "So So" but I would certainly give great marks to our guide! When was the last time that you went fly fishing and lost track of how many trout you landed that were 18”plus? For me it was on the Owyhee fishing with Andrew and Derek. Simply put – this was the best day of fishing that I have ever had (and I fish a GOOD amount!). We fished more than 12 hours and Andrew and Derek kept us on the fish all day long. Eating lunch with our feet hanging in the river was a great 15-minute break from the action, but the monster browns are what will bring me back! ”
“I recently had the had the opportunity to organize a fishing trip through Andrew and Dreams on the Fly. My friends and I had been thinking of doing this for some time and so I began doing a lot of research and finally pulled the trigger on a guided trip for a group of 5 on the Owyhee River.
I went in trying keep expectations low as my friends were coming from out of town and I didn’t want anyone to get their hopes up. What happened from the booking on was nothing short of world class start to finish. Andrew was following up with me proactively making sure we had everything covered from flies and leader, to poles, reels and waders. They had thought of everything including meals and licensing. Before the big day Andrew was on top of everything effectively herding the cats and getting us set to go.
A day before the big day Andrew called and asked “hey would you mind if we left a little earlier in the morning, I have a great spot that I want to make sure that we get.” What followed next was nothing short of mind blowing. Andrew and Derek had us on fish from the moment we got there till the moment we left. The first fish of the day was the biggest I ever landed on a fly rod and turned out to be my smallest of the day!
Andrew and Derek orchestrated everything to precision with our large group; analyzing the hatch, putting the right fly’s on, and even teaching our experienced group more than a thing or two. On the day every member of our rather experienced group had lost count of the number of fish they landed not to mention the number that got off. Multiple times you would hear the chant “doubles” or “triples” as multiple members of the group hooked into fish simultaneously.
One of the coolest parts of the whole day was that we never felt rushed or pressure to leave and quite frankly we were the ones that surrendered. As the day ended for our group every person uttered the words “that was the best day of fishing that I have ever had,” Then Andrew and Derek graciously told us where to go and when to start from the following day which we had decided to do unguided.
Day two was good but the bar had been set and I don’t think we’ll ever get there again. This was an early fathers day gift for my dad and he told me a day later with pride in his eyes that it was the best gift he has ever received. Needless to say they have found a client for life and we have planned to make this an annual event. I shouldn’t say this but after our experience I would gladly pay double!” -Justin Samples
Staying in Boise on business, I had heard about the amazing trout fishing in the area. Andrew happened to be available for an early season trip on the Owhee River just over the border in Oregon.
He conveniently picked me up at my hotel and we made the quick one and a half hour drive through high desert until we descended into the “Grand Canyon of Oregon”. Beautiful high wall red canyons surrounded the abnormally clear river below, holding one of the country’s best brown trout fisheries.
Extremely patient and cheerful, Andrew helped me perfect my casting while always knowing the exact spot to set my fly. We caught 15 or more browns with a few pigs over 20 inches. Each fish was treated with respect and released without harm.
When we finally took a break from the fishing action, a homemade sandwich, as good as any deli was waiting for me in the shade. (One of the perks from his many years in the restaurant industry.)
In all, this ranks up there with one of my best fishing trips. High quantity of fish, quality of both fish and guidesmanship — and just a pleasant time talking with a new friend.
The only downside, is that my local fishery will seem inadequate after this experience! Thanks Andrew!”

I had an especially good fishing trip on the Owyhee River recently and wanted to share with others how it went.
First a bit about me – I’m 71 years old and have a physical impairment that makes wading very difficult. I learned a long time ago that flat feet and degraded balance don’t accommodate round rocks very well! I refuse to let my impairment keep me from enjoying fly fishing.
It takes a special guide to accommodate my difficulties and I’ve found one. Andrew Catt, of Dreams On The Fly guide service, was my guide. Andrew has the patience, experience, and sense of service that enabled him to assist me in wading to the best places on the river. Andy made sure that I never once felt that I was not safe. Andrews easy going, always encouraging guidance really helped me locate and catch fish. Hats off to Andrew!
So what kind of day did we have? I hooked and netted north of 20 nice Brown Trout and 1 very fat, feisty 18” Rainbow. The Browns ranged from 16” to 21” and all were healthy enough to put up a good fight. The Rainbow just did not want to come to the net but patience endured. You don’t have this kind of day on the Owyhee unless you know the river and the hatch. Andrew is an expert at both.
I highly recommend using Dreams On The Fly and Andrew Catt if you are going to fish the Owyhee River. I know I’ll be fishing with him again this summer! – Jack Schaefer*

Andrew Catt guided myself, my son, and my father-in-lawn on the Owyhee River in Late May. What a great experience! I had never fly fished before, but Andrew was very patient and informative. His patience with my 9 year old son was outstanding! Andrew had to run around constantly helping us to get on the fish, teach us, tie lines, etc. and he never missed a beat. We were fortunate enough to add some nice sized brown trout to the experience and the beautiful scenery of the Owyhee Mountains. It was a trip I we will never forget, and it is all mainly due to Mr. Andrew Catt and Dreams on the Fly.
I had the pleasure to spend the morning yesterday with Boise fly fishing guide Andrew Catt. When you want to relax and get away from it, nothing better than catching some Browns on the Owyhee River. Having fun and catching fish, what a way to spend a day.
