The Owyhee River from Rome, Oregon to Birch Creek is a 5 day float trip. There is a small window for floating the river due to the water levels and the water temperatures.

There are no roads for almost 49 miles, there is no cell service, no Internet connection….no people! But lots of smallmouth bass…like every cast! The NY Times article in ’08 reports the Owyhee is “The Grand Canyon of Oregon.” Fishing for smallmouth on this Wild & Scenic river is as good as the well known John Day River fishing was 20 years ago.

The average smallmouth will be 10-14” with an occasional 17-18” fish. These bass are extremely aggressive and will hammer any topwater flies with a vengeance.

Floating along the Owyhee River in Oregon, you pass through astonishing high desert canyonlands with thousand foot rhyolite cliffs and sand castle rock formations. Visitors will marvel at the variety of birds and mammals, including river otters, bighorn sheep and golden eagles. Not only is this a fantastic fishing trip, but a photographers dream!
