Staying in Boise on business, I had heard about the amazing trout fishing in the area. Andrew happened to be available for an early season trip on the Owhee River just over the border in Oregon.
He conveniently picked me up at my hotel and we made the quick one and a half hour drive through high desert until we descended into the "Grand Canyon of Oregon". Beautiful high wall red canyons surrounded the abnormally clear river below, holding one of the country's best brown trout fisheries. Extremely patient and cheerful, Andrew helped me perfect my casting while always knowing the exact spot to set my fly. We caught 15 or more browns with a few pigs over 20 inches. Each fish was treated with respect and released without harm. When we finally took a break from the fishing action, a homemade sandwich, as good as any deli was waiting for me in the shade. (One of the perks from his many years in the restaurant industry.) In all, this ranks up there with one of my best fishing trips. High quantity of fish, quality of both fish and guidesmanship — and just a pleasant time talking with a new friend. The only downside, is that my local fishery will seem inadequate after this experience! Thanks Andrew!" |

I had an especially good fishing trip on the Owyhee River recently and wanted to share with others how it went.
First a bit about me – I’m 71 years old and have a physical impairment that makes wading very difficult. I learned a long time ago that flat feet and degraded balance don’t accommodate round rocks very well! I refuse to let my impairment keep me from enjoying fly fishing.
It takes a special guide to accommodate my difficulties and I’ve found one. Andrew Catt, of Dreams On The Fly guide service, was my guide. Andrew has the patience, experience, and sense of service that enabled him to assist me in wading to the best places on the river. Andy made sure that I never once felt that I was not safe. Andrews easy going, always encouraging guidance really helped me locate and catch fish. Hats off to Andrew!
So what kind of day did we have? I hooked and netted north of 20 nice Brown Trout and 1 very fat, feisty 18” Rainbow. The Browns ranged from 16” to 21” and all were healthy enough to put up a good fight. The Rainbow just did not want to come to the net but patience endured. You don’t have this kind of day on the Owyhee unless you know the river and the hatch. Andrew is an expert at both.
I highly recommend using Dreams On The Fly and Andrew Catt if you are going to fish the Owyhee River. I know I’ll be fishing with him again this summer! - Jack Schaefer*
