The smallmouth bass in the Grande Ronde and Owyhee Rivers are AGRESSIVE, TOUGH AND ARE HARD FIGHTERS!.
Smallies are know for their tail slapping water dances, mixed with deep dives and active runs. And although most fly fishers prefer trout or steelhead these average 11-15 inch fish are great fun.
The lower Grande Ronde and the Owyhee from Rome to Birch Creek boast a huge population of smallmouth bass that have voracious appetites! Although minnows and crawfish are their dietary staple, it's not uncommon to have 30-50 fish days on topwater flies such as grasshoppers, poppers and large terrestrials. Our season runs June 15th through September 15th.
